I live on Vancouver Island, in a modest 1980s two-story "box" with no style, built well but with no embellishments whatsoever. Fortunately it is open plan with the main living area facing south with large windows; unfortunately a huge granite angled fireplace is smack-dab in the middle of the "open" space. It can't go, so I'm working with it. It dictated more of a casual, lodge-style living room decor, but the back side facing the kitchen could be Mediterranean, so I've gone with more of an old-country style there. I am updating flooring and fixtures and refinishing wood, but everything is done on a budget so it goes slowly. Last big project was a bay eating area with banquette seating.

The tile work above the range, the plaster look on walls, and the crown molding on cupboard tops all contribute to the French look. Je t'adore!
