Turn your fireplace mantel into the showstopper it was meant to be through paint. And think about colors other than typical white. A new paint color can dramatize your mantel, turn up the heat on the surround or take the attention off worn brick, stone or tile. The fireplace is old red brick and sticks out like a sore thumb, what colors would you suggests, I want to paint it. I'm thinking white, but what about black or light gray?
