Clever Floor Accents Bring Color and Style to Entry, Courtyard and Bath
Looking for an interesting design idea for an upcoming tile floor project? Consider putting in a tile rug. This is not actually a rug; it just looks like one, with an outside border and an inside design. Customized to fit your space, the "rug" is installed first, and the rest of the tile is worked in around it. It's a great way to personalize your floor! Here are some examples:

This tile runner defines a path through the master bath. The body of the rug is an H-shaped mosaic and is bordered with green marble. The pattern is carried into the shower floor.
A high-contrast black-and-white rug makes a bold statement. The heavy black marble border balances the vanity, mirrors and medicine cabinets. The inside is carrara marble mosaic with black dots.

Neil Graham Those are all very nice floors and walls. Just goes to show there is nothing you can't create with a little imagination and inspiration, although some looked as if they were designed by a professional. By laying out some samples on the floor or taping it up on the wall, you can give yourself a good visualization of your colors and patterns. http://www.dimensionbuildlv.com

ds design studio @Judith, I think it can be done by a very skilled tile installer. He would need to cut and remove the existing tile very carefully. If you are thinking of doing this, I would talk to a tile contractor first.

Leah Ayers Love these!! they do cost more. we added a medium one in our foyer and we love it. I say if you have the extra money, go for it in bathrooms & kitchens etc.
