I am a designer living and working in New York City. I write Fourth Floor Walk Up as a means of expression to document inspiration, projects and the design evolution of my home. I am greatly influenced by the city around me and although New York is expensive and hard on the 99%, I believe that everyone can have a great refuge to come home to – some of us just have to work a little bit harder to attain it.

I grew up within a household centered around decorating with the interest being past down through several generations. My grandmother, mother and I have all had the ability to see spaces for what they are and what they could become. I tend to focus on smaller spaces with modest budgets because I believe a little bit of blood, sweat and tears can make a sweeter home.

Many people are taking work home with them these days, and having a great home office is necessary. Inspiration can come from many outlets, but the first place to start is your desk. The important question is, how can you make your office both efficient and inspirational?
While researching ideas for my own home office, I gathered images of my favorite spaces and realized the best ones had a few specific details in common: a desk with storage, a good light, an ergonomic chair and great organizational tools.
