I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Andrea Marie Schleber. I was born and raised in Webster, N.Y.. I did not stay close to home for long however. I traveled around quite a bit to broaden my horizons and gain experience and new insights which I am very grateful for. My educational pursuits have always revolved around art, psychology, and interior design. My career moves have always involved working with a variety of populations which I relished in. I have thoroughly enjoyed all of the insight I have gained from others life stories….My life story includes a variety of positions and pursuits, yet all have led up to my cultivation of skills to allow me to specialize in the field I now call home so to speak. As a child I was an artist, a seeker, curious abouthe world and everything in it. I could replicate on paper what I saw with great detail. I can see and feel color. I am an artist at heart that enjoys being inspired by the process. I love art, yet I love discovering people more. By marrying the two and embracing the lense of my interior design educational background, I have found what has become so naturally - my career.
I believe in color as a reference point, as a story teller, as a means to transform our reality. Color can alter our daily experience and overall well-being. When colors click, the individual has an emotional response, one which will be positively affective for each individual. Through my many years of experience I have witnessed time and time again, stress that is caused from a disorganized puzzle of surroundings in ones environment. It is the knowledge of the nuance of colors, the undertones, and their position and relationship with one another that makes color click and surroundings sing…
What do I do? Color…..For real. It’s that simple…and yet that complex. I choose to specialize in utilizing color as the key tool in organizing the design process. Obviously light is the key in composing the correct color compositions. I relish in the process of helping others to discover how color can ease their daily lives. I laugh when I am asked what’s the right color? Your color…what represents you now, not popular opinion. What moves us to to the tones we are drawn to? The answers lie within the individual… It takes empathy to find another’s color prescription. It takes analyzation visually and emotionally. What’s my training? The answer is just as complex. Soul searching, life experience, a lot of work with people from all over the spectrum…and sure it helps to be naturally atuned or brain wired for the process.
Professionally speaking I have a bachelor’s degree in Interior Design from Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, New York. Pratt Institute is a highly accredited school in the field of interior design. Though my program of study was geared more towards large commercial projects, my nature was more personal and individual. I took my extensive training and honed my expertise towards smaller projects and more personalized endeavors. During my consultations I am most often asked… “What would you do? What do you like?” When I answer that question I remind my client why I make the color references I do….it is what is personal to me. That is what sets the process apart from consultant to consultant. My job is to pull up as efficiently as I can the colors that speak to the client.…not the colors I want to push to further a trend I am spreading.
I have a passion for color and a passion for people. Every client is a new puzzle, a new portrait to discover. I never let my color associations interfere or dictate a consultation. To do so would not ensure a long standing satisfaction for the clients atmosphere.
It is a very careful process and has much more to do with drawing out the client’s responses to color and then coordinating that with what currently exists in the space, the overall desired effect, and aesthetic for the environment requested. My credibility comes from my successful results. I am process oriented. My analytical skills and abilities to coordinate pieces to create a whole are better illustrated under this label so to speak. I felt the need to specialize in what I am best equipped to assist my clients with. As a designer, I focus on spaces and events to create the picture that an invidual wants to portray.
For residences I offer my training as an interior designer to coach homeowners towards the desired outcome. My advisement is not skewed or tied to selling a product, rather I am assisting the client in illustrating their life story as simple or complex as the individual within their setting. Creating a sense of home however defined by the client is my purpose. The design expertise I give to the homeowner is similar to creating an original poem. It is about entry, flow, pattern, balance, energy, and rhythm.
For businesses I understand how very important it is for small business owners to be consistant in their message. I assist business owners in visualizing how to get this message across in their environment. Obviously materials and color selection plays an important role as well as furnishings, lighting and accent pieces.
For special events my experience primarily deals with weddings. Coordinating a theme that represents the couple and spills into the décor of the event is a wonderful expression of my talents. Events are all about atmosphere….so naturally this process is a very exciting one to design according to the couples identity. My role is as a conceptual designer, rather than a coordinator or planner. I have created many one of a kind bouquets and tablescapes for such occasions, as well as, invitations, ceremonial plans, and custom touches that make the event so personal and unique. I am also able to coach the couple in creating the initial plan to carry out their vision accordingly with budget.
I love what I do, and love helping others. Anytime I can help another with color in design …make beauty where one cannot see it…I am validated once again in knowing that this path is the one I am here to do. Helping to make the world a more beautiful place for those witnessing it is my heart’s drive in life. I hope you enjoy your experience with me, and that you are able to share it with others.
