In the world of design, ceilings
are sometimes referred to as the "fifth wall". And I believe it's just as important to think about how the wall above your head
looks, as it is to think about the ones at eye level.
Here are some great, inexpensive ways to spruce up any ceiling-
1. Cover it in Color
Painting your ceiling can really make a difference in the overall feel of a room. By painting the ceiling a dark color, your ceiling will visually descend, making the space feel cozier. On the flip side, painting your ceiling a lighter color will make your room feel more spacious, but at the same time, will add more visual interest than a white one would.
2. Transform it with Texture
Adding texture to your ceiling can really add to the architecture of a room. For an old world
look, try adding plaster using a trowel.
3. Make it Metallic
Metallic paint is ideal for ceilings because it adds such a wonderful glow to the room. The finish will shimmer as light hits it from different angles.
4. Wrap it with Wallpaper
Wallpapered ceilings can both support a rooms overall color scheme and add an enormous amount of visual interest to the ceiling
5. Spruce it up with Stencils
Add a bit of pizazz by hand-painting a stencil design
on your ceiling. You can paint anything from a design around a center light fixture to a pattern around the perimeter of your room.
6. Bring on the Beadboard
Adding beadboard paneling will give your ceiling a fresh and classic look. 4'x8' panels can be purchased at most home improvement stores for around $18 each. Prime and paint them the color of your choice and once they're attached to the ceiling, cover the seams with trim molding
7. Coat it with a Color Wash
Mimic the look of a watercolor painting
by adding a pretty wash of translucent color to your ceiling. It's a great way to subtly add depth and dimension to your space.
