Take Your Cue from Nature for the Most Classic Color Combination of All

When you choose color combinations that occur in nature, it's hard to go wrong. Varying shades of brown and green will always work together, with greens from lime to leaf paired with a range of browns from twig to chocolate. I admit, I just made up "twig" brown, but I'm willing to bet some paint company has a shade with that name somewhere. Whether one is the main color and the other the accent, or the pair are both accent colors, this is a color combination that has stood the test of time.
While we don't have exact paint colors from the designers, I've included some color pairings at the bottom of some of these captions that will help you capture the look of the room. I chose Benjamin Moore colors because (a) I've used their paint on my own home and been very satisfied and (b) They have an easy to use Virutal Fan Deck online that I've downloaded to my computer.

dancingfish Ahh this may be the solution to the big brown leather couch my husband picked out.. perhaps green pillows and throws??? Loving this combo-- is this the update to last years blue and brown?

Carolyn Zone9alady I'm a fan of green, but it has to be rich deep greens like emerald, forest, kelly. Lime greens and chartreuse can stay in the garden.

Christie Thomas I just added a 'Woodland Mantel' with these lovely colors! My favorite! Here is my living room with brown and green and my mantel! Thanks for posting this great color combo!

lindseyakin We're about to paint our living room deep deep brown - very dramatic. Sherwin Williams French Roast. It'll be the brown above the chair rail, with a light/mid gray underneath (SW Proper Gray is what I think we finalized on), then a silvery gray blue (pale) in the ceiling pocket. All the trim will be white - chair, picture rail, windows. Our couch is green/brown. We chose this colour scheme because its dramatic, and also because it works to add pops of colour. In the autumn/winter, we'll add reds and oranges with cushions, curtains etc, in the spring/summer, we'll switch out to lime greens and turquoises.
