Man made fire in the dawn of the world, yes, but the search for the most inviting hearth persists even today. Originally a way to heat a room and cook food, a fireplace still provides a warming glow in a space. Today the fireplace is a warming central spot for gathering with friends and family, or cozying up on your own. It can even become a visual focal point for a room to grow around, especially when lit in the winter months.
We can have the style of hearth we want. No need to consign ourselves to overstated or traditional (or over-adorned) mantles.
