Houzz is the new way to design your home.
I am 31 years old and work as a residential and commerical builders assistant. I love to watch something go from invisible to super curb appeal. I am a people person so pleasing the client is my number one priority. I have an interior design degree which I have used toward various space planning opportunities as well as helping family and friends remodel and redesign their living spaces.

Oval shaped plantation shutters.
Shows how a large curtain can hide the whole space. Would require a relocation of the bookshelves.
Putting a shelf right at the windows ledge is an interesting idea. You can use the height of some of different accessories to reduce the light. Even painting the inner walls of the windows with a darker shade than the wall color will reduce the incoming light.
Notice the horizontal blinds on the smaller windows.
Looking at this picture makes me realize that covering the 3 windows above the tv might kill a great source of light. (maybe use darker neutral shades with your sheer window treatments)
The smaller window has a horizontal hindged plantation shutter. It also opens and closes using hindges offset to the left or right side.
Closer view of the operable plantation shutters.
The operable door for the shutters is another good option to let light in or keep it out.
Here is an example of shutters on arched windows. This could be a good look for the higher windows!
Bermuda blinds that open and close without the guide in the middle. Lift one blind up or down to move all.
