If you love the look of a Roman shade but want something more delicate, try a Roman swoop. This is my favorite casual type of window treatment. Instead of a tailored straight edge, it has a soft swoop. It is a relaxed Roman shade that can be used alone on a window or layered under curtains for a more dramatic affect. Installed on a single window or a large bank of windows, functional or nonfunctional, it just looks great. Remember that this is a soft shade and, unlike a balloon shade, it's not meant to create volume.

If you have a window you want to add height to, try a single swoop. You want the treatment to be as wide as the outside of your window, including any molding around it.
Create a soft sophisticated look by installing the Roman swoop behind drapes. Use a silky fabric; when pulled down, it will add a little sparkle yet not look too bulky.
A few single Roman swoops used side by side on a long window create a dramatic look of multiple swoops and still allow each one to function independently. I love how they look over a kitchen sink.

| The mock (nonfunctional) Roman swoop is a great way to get the look of a beautiful window treatment without lots of fabric. If you still need privacy, simply mount it on the outside of the window and use a blind or shade on the inside. |
