Gelotte Hommas's ideas - Cedar Haven
Cedar Haven
This home is truly a forest haven inspired by the cedar trees and tranquility that the surrounding area gives. The homeowners wanted to bring that tranquility and natural peace into the design and details of their new home.
Built on a site where a previous log home was, the homeowners wanted it to feel like it belong to the site but didn’t want a log home. The goal was to deliver a rustic home with contemporary detailing. The sculpture-quality, spiral staircase with its tapered posts echo a grove of trees and the colorful petrified stump is a focal point in the entry. We like to call this design style rustic contemporary.
It should be noted that many of the logs used as decorative and structural pieces were reclaimed from the site itself, along with branches, stone and other found objects, adding to the organic undertone, which exemplifies the beauty and goal of the design.
