Principles and Elements of Design
principle: pattern- is when a shape is being repeated to create an artistic design. you can see the pattern in the chairs, the wallpaper and even the curtains. this pattern gives the room a bit more liveliness and doesn't make it seem dull.
element: line-it is a stroke either straight or curved that starts at one point and ends at another. you can see lines on the pillow case, the bed's back board and on the top of the table in front of the bed. this gives these lines give the room a sense of unity.
element:color-many colors can be seen in this picture such as red, yellow and blue. these colors make the room look bright and vibrant as opposed to a bedroom with a dull grey themed bedroom.
principle: emphasis-is a point in a picture that stands out the most and really catches your attention. notice how when you look at this picture the first thing you look at is the bed. the reason is partly because of the bright color of the bed sheet and because the bed is in the center of the picture.
element: texture-is a sense of what something feels like when you touch it. the texture of the wall behind the bed seems very rough and wavy. it helps make the room look more stylish.
principle: balance- is a sense of something being equally shown or equally distributed. in this picture you can see this rectangular bathroom is given a lot of balance. the number of cabinets and the number of tiles are balanced. this balance gives the bathroom a sense of perfection.
element: form is a three dimensional object that takes up space. you can see many forms in this picture. especially the two round pillows in the front. this makes the room look more whimsical.
principle: unity- when everything falls together and functions well together. all the furniture and the decor look good in this picture because they are put in the right places. this makes the room look more appealing.
element: value is the change of color going from either a dark color to a light color or a light color to dark color. value can be seen in the wall where the blue slowly fades and turns into white.this value gives the room an exotic mood.
principle: movement is shown in this picture by the rugs. their circular design really gives you a feeling of some kind of substance flowing in a circle and makes the room look artistic.
principle: rhythm is show in this picture by the pathway. you can see how the curvy line guides your eyes in a curved motion from one end to the other.
element: shape is a two dimensional object created when a line closes itself. circular shapes can be seen on the back wall differentiating in sizes. these shapes make the room look bright and colorful.
principle: contrast is when some very different colors are put close together. the contrast of white and black looks very nice on this building and makes the building look more appealing than if it was just a fully white colored building.
principle: space can be found in two dimensional objects. it is the area inside a shape. there are orange and pink spaces inside the circular shapes on the wall. these spaces give a unique theme to the wall.
