| But getting your pet — or anyone, really — to relinquish a spot like this during colder months could be tough. |

| In warm months it's all about the outdoors. Some dogs may prefer a more active lifestyle with a swim... |

| Food, bed, TV all in one place — if this was for a human, we might be concerned. For a pup, it is a model of efficiency. |

(Don't worry; despite the puppy dog eyes, the carpet keeps it perfectly comfortable down there.) |

| This window seat combines several of your dog's favorite pastimes: It's a spot for sunning, napping and patiently waiting until you return. Which one of these pooches would you take home? Seriously, not only are the dogs ridiculously cute, but as a parent to two furry, four-legged "children" (who much prefer sleeping on the human beds and furniture than the floor or the dog beds, and are forever tracking dirt and leaving hair on my nice clean floors/upholstery/duvet/clothes/etc.), finding ways to incorporate their needs into my design aesthetic is always a challenge. Thanks for the inspiration, and the reminder that even people with exquisitely designed homes and expensive furniture make accommodations for their pups!
There is also a book on Amazon called "Dogscaping" for those who are ready to start landscaping this spring.. Loved this ideabook!
Best idea book ever!
Mom of a Golden and Lab. Dusty and Jack.
And keep the pet pics coming! I'm loving all these adorable mugs.
I loved the article. Everyone does articles for children's spaces, thank you for remembering those of us with dogs.
Gunner, the GSD puppy is mine, but we get submissions from all over the place. See more "dogs on rugs" at: http://www.tufenkianportland.com/dog-blog
I am an Interior Designer so I have to balance a beautiful home and Pistol Annie a Chocolate Lab puppy inside. So far only the loveseat skirt has been attacked. Fortunately I know I'm going to recover it so it was not an upset. A tip: I broke that bad habit by sprinkling a little cayenne pepper on the chewed skirt. She only tried it once more and never touched it again. "Of course I had water available for relief" Now that she's getting bigger- if anyone as advice on how to keep her from grabbing things off the kitchen counter- your tips are welcome.
As a designer I have had other animal loving customers whose pets are family and often influence designs. I've seen everything from a custom dog shower in the utility room, to cabinets deigned to store pet food, custom kennels. I love the animal friendly homeowner!
Great ideabook. House ruled by 2 whippets.

PATCH (YOUNGEST AND THE MALE) IS ''ALPHA DOG AND I HAD THEM BOTH SPAYED AND NEUTERED..BUT HAVING TWO BULLDOGS IS A MISTAKE... THEY TEND TO '''DEMAND'' TO BE THE ONLY PET IN THE HOUSE.. PATCH SOMETIMES IS SO ONERY TO LULU... IT HAS BEEN A JOURNEY OF 8 YEARS AND I WISH I WOULD HAVE KEPT JUST LULU WHEN SHE WAS A YEAR, I DECIDED SHE NEEDED A FRIEND... WELL THE NEW CUTE LITTLE BOY BULLY BECAME A BIG BOY BULLY AND IT'S BEEN ROUGH...AND IF ANYONE THINKS SHORT HAIRED DOGS (WHITE ESPECIALLY) DON'T SHED.... ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh dear.. THANK GOODNESS FOR WASHABLE SLIP COVERS.. NOSE WIPING IS HUGE WITH WRINKLE DOGS.
I LOVE THEM AND SOMETIMES I DON'T WANT TO SEE THEM FOR AT LEAST A WEEK ..ALWAYS REMEMBER BOARDING COSTS ARE HUGE IF YOU CHECK IN THE HYATT HOTEL FOR DOGS... WHICH MINE ARE IN ONE OF THE BEST AS THEY GET THEIR OWN BEDS AND PLAY ROOM... AND DARLING LITTLE LULU GETS A BREAK FROM HER ONERY OLE ' BROTHER... BUT ME ..I GET AWAY..
