Houzz is the new way to design your home.
I am blessed to work from a home studio as a calligrapher. I love to joke with my husband and friends that interior design is one of my favorite hobbies, even though it can be an expensive hobby at times. I am currently spending lots of time dreaming about the home we are planning to build one day on Whidbey Island - bliss!

I would love a u shaped, small kitchen, with a range on one side, sink on another side, and one side would be all counter space. Currently have this arrangement and I love it! Envision possibly having the refrigerator on a wall opposite the u shaped kitchen, with it's own little counter space for setting down items. No island please. Love Shaker style cabinets, prefer white paint, but open to idea of perhaps have the lower cabinets painted blue and the upper cabinets white. I would love polished chrome hardware, perhaps some old fashioned latches on some of the upper cabinets. Prefer lots of drawers over cabinets - so much easier to store and access stuff! Tend to prefer a dark counter top, perhaps slate or soapstone, but also love my current "Blue Night" Granite, and have always loved a granite called "Blue Eyes". Love the look of white marble, but too much upkeep. Envision a small range - 36", or perhaps a little larger - gas top and electric oven. Prefer stainless steel appliances, although open to the idea of a blue enameled range if I were to find a screaming deal on a used La Cornue or Aga. I like the look of a wood trimmed vent hood. Also envision this space as being open to the dining area, although perhaps with some delineation like a cased out beam. Toying with the idea of a L-shaped banquette as part of the dining area, with part of the banquette up against the "pony" wall of the u-shaped kitchen. Just depends on how much space we have for the dining area. Also would love a nice pantry closet, perhaps 4" x 5"? Lots of drawers and shallow shelves.
