This room is Cozy with a capital C! Sleeping fireside, surrounded by wood and stone would be such a wonderful experience.

The jagged stone and the smooth wood is such a pleasing combination in this home.

A deliciously chunky claw foot tub resting atop two rustic beams ties together nicely with the rustic wood trim around the window above.

I love the warmth of all the wood in this look, but like the brightness of white windows and trim. Any thoughts on doing stained wood door/trim and white painted windows and white trim throughout the rest of the house?

I have lived in an old ( early 1900's) Finnish built square log house for almost 20 years. I'm slowly switching from the lodge look (leather furniture, handcrafted pottery, heavy wool rugs) to bring in a lighter, fresher feeling. The logs are beautiful, but I'm ready for something different! Painting the woodwork white is the 1st step & adding ironstone, linen, burlap, white/ muted colors in textiles...hopefully a few French or Swedish pieces. My husband isn't so sure :)

Gorgeous. I just returned last weekend from a weekend in my cousins cabin in Mentone. It was wonderful. I love the look of that cabin......I am making reservations.

Dear upnorth, I sympathize with desiring new palettes in your home.
However, As I hate to see brick painted, painting over your woodwork I deem a similar disastrous mistake. Why don't you place covered fabric panels on top of the woodwork instead of painting the wood? (You can change the fabric that way too, and you'll have fabric covered walls which are so nice. ) I just cringe however when I hear of painting over a material whose natural attributes are what draws you to them in the first place. Good luck with your refreshment...

I just spent the weekend in the North Georgia mountains with nine girlfriends, it was the ultimate lodge (especially b/c it had a Ms. Pacman machine ;) ). I'm including a picture. I love seeing my friend Suzannah's house here too (it's still for sale if anyone is interested - Greene County VA)

We found the most amazing cabin in Colorado. "Beaver Meadows" go to Ft Collins go west on Hwy 7 follow the signs to Red Feather Lake. The most amazing, unbelivable views, activities for the entire family and the best affordable. We stayed at one of the cabins could of slept 4 it was just us with fireplace and only $50 a night. They have condos that sleep 6 comfortably for $90 a night some cheaper with full kitchen. Totally recommend this place. www.beavermeadows.com
