Guest Picks: Looking High and Low For Gourd-Shaped Lamp Bases
While shopping with a friend for a lamp, I realized I had my mind set on a gourd-shaped base. I remembered that my favorite lamps were some of those made by famous New York potter and lamp maker Christopher Spitzmiller. His handmade single-, double- and triple-gourd bases are sought after by top designers, but they also have a hefty price tag with most starting no lower than a thousand dollars.
Here are a few examples of Spitzmiller's iconic designs, and also a few more moderately priced designs of similar shape from other manufacturers. If you can afford a Spitzmiller, go for it by all means! If not, options abound.

Great Ideabook! I've loved the Spitzmiller lamps for years now, but just couldn't afford them. I ended up settling on the larger Robert Abbey Double Gourd lamp in the Apple green with a brass toned base and I LOVE it! The size is fabulous. I did originally purchase the smaller ones and they're nice too, just too small for the space I had planned for them.
