The word "ikat" refers to a traditional weaving method that involves a laborious process of resist-dying small bundles of yarn that are then woven on narrow looms. Today, the term can refer to this weaving method or to printed patterns inspired by the designs of traditional ikat fabrics. You'll find the exotic motif everywhere from the runway to the home.
Ikat patterns are a particularly practical choice for upholstery because they are frequently multihued and irregular — two qualities that make them great at hiding stains and spills.
