Recently my friend Marci visited me in Atlanta. Marci bought and is renovating Grey Gardens' twin sister house, complete with raccoons, open food jars, and an owner who had buried a lot of gold coins in the backyard, which is a really funny tale for another day. She needed a ton of light fixtures, so we hit my go-to spot for such occasions, Circa Lighting. Anyway, my point is, picking out the fixtures for a kitchen island are much more complicated than I ever could have imagined. You want to be able to have a clear view underneath it to one room when you are standing in the other room. This involved a lot of math involving ceiling heights and fixture heights and her height; I felt like I was taking the SAT again or something. I had no idea it could be so complicated.
Thus, I decided to turn to houzz to see how it's done. So many homes today feature kitchens that open to the rest of the house, with the spaces divided by an island. The lighting you choose here can really make the room. It's a chance to do something different than the rest of the lighting in the rooms. It's a spot where the light fixtures will really stand out, and the right choice can add so much personality and style to your home.

4girls, I recommend looking through all of that designer's portfolio - I think you'll really like it. I just saw her featured in the Sept. issue of Country Living, with one of my other favorite houzz kitchens that I just featured in a kitchen tile ideabook.
I will have to check Circa out since I live in Metro ATL. Great Ideabook...amazing how many different style island fixtures are out there for the choosing! Beautiful!
