When I lived in New England, the beautiful old stone walls never ceased to amaze me. They seemed to go on forever. Stones are a wonderful design material in everything from these old rustic walls to beautiful pebbled stone shower floors.
Stones can also take on different meanings to people. I have a friend who made us pull over in the Pyrenees in order to grab a stone - she has a collection from every mountain range she's every visited. In Feng Shui, many stones are believed to have various healing powers. Whatever meaning stones have for you, here are some beautiful examples of how to incorporate them into your home's design.
Oh, and if you are a stone nut like I am, you will love the work of Andy Goldsworthy. I guarantee it will take your breath away.

Remember that scene in "Under the Tuscan Sun" where a wall collapses and all kinds of stones tumble down from INSIDE the plaster walls? It still amazes me to see homes like this. This shell was totally worth renovating.
