Rolling ladder, floor-to-ceiling shelving
Rolling ladder, shelving style (simple, wraps around windows, open shelf above), wood color
Note how the ladder rolls around the corner. Cabinetry is too dark, but the mix of glass and closed lower cabinets is interesting.
Lighted display spaces intermixed with the shelving breaks up the "mass effect" of the books.
This actual desk style is not at all ergonomic, but the idea of extending it under the window is worth considering. The closed cabinets on top of the countertop to the left would make a good printer and electronics hutch.
Shelving with ladder makes efficient use of space; sconces on solid panels break up the shelving and also provide lighting
Cabinetry style, ladder, sconces, lower cabinets, wrap around windows
Chairs; everything facing windows; window treatments (mid-level curtain rod would work well, as long as there's a solution for our upper windows also); cabinets and shelves with mixture of levels and depths to break up mass; color of wood
Base cabinets under windows; wood color
Lighting mounted along top; wood color (floor is similar to ours, too); don't like the ceiling and cabinetry is unnecessarily ornate
Peninsula desk (would need to have more ergonomic keyboard mount, e.g. adjustable tray on movable arm, instead of drawers). There's too much base cabinetry (file cabinet style), but a mix of these with shelving and/or larger cabinets with adjustable shelves inside would work. Display shelving along upper wall isn't a very good use of space, at least in this quantity.
Shelving wrapped around windows, including angles; curtains mounted underneath; large, comfy couch facing windows and shelves with good reading lights and a long table behind (for setting coffee mugs etc. down). Tudor style obviously doesn't work, and wood color isn't what we'd want.
High shelving (for wall opposite windows) with ladder access
Painted wood cabinets (for boys' bath)
Like the painted cabinets though this style is a little too ornate; like the color palate (master bath)
