| FILM FESTIVAL — April 19–May 3, 2012 San Francisco Film Festival The Love Song of R. Buckminster Fuller, directed by Sam Green San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Phyllis Wattis Theater, 151 Third St., San Francisco Showings: Tuesday, May 1, 7 p.m., 9 p.m. Buy tickets online As part of the San Francisco Film Festival, the documentary Love Song of R. Buckminster Fuller matches original and found footage with live narration by Sam Green. For the screening, indie music group Yo La Tengo will perform the score live. The documentary interviews many Bay Area luminaries to discuss Fuller's ongoing impact on design. Ticket holders will also gain admission to the SFMOMA exhibit "The Utopian Impulse: Buckminster Fuller and the Bay Area" and a reception. Purchase film festival tickets here |

| SHOWCASE HOME — April 24–May 20, 2012 Philharmonic House of Design Laguna Beach, California See how 20 Orange County and Los Angeles interior designers transformed an 11,000-square-foot beachside estate at this year's Philharmonic House of Design showcase. The house, in the postcard-perfect coastal hills of Laguna Beach, gives you the chance to take in panoramic views of the Pacific and work by local artists. This year's designers include Stephanie Fryer and Rona Graf of Grace Blu Designs, Sean Hashemian, Chris Kittrell, Shala Shamardi, and Hal Swanson and Dan Ollis. Funds from the event benefit youth music education programs of the Philharmonic Society of Orange County. Hours: Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday through Sunday, 10 a.m.–5 p.m.; Thursday, 10 a.m.–9 p.m.; closed Mondays Cost: $40 general admission, $50 house pass (unlimited entry). Purchase tickets online |

| BENEFIT — April 26–28, 2012 Design on a Dime Metropolitan Pavilion, 125 W. 18th St., New York City More than 50 designers are coming together for Design on a Dime, an interior design shopping benefit, at the Metropolitan Pavilion in Manhattan. The weekend features top interior designers, including Tilton Fenwick and Arden Stephenson, who will create room vignettes using new donated merchandise, which will then be sold for 50 to 70 percent off retail pricing. All funds support Housing Works, a nonprofit with a mission to end AIDS and homelessness. Purchase tickets for the VIP opening-night reception on April 26. Shopping is open to the public on April 27 and 28. |

A new exhibition at the A+D Museum calls architects, landscape architects, engineers and urban designers to action to respond to the challenges of water scarcity in light of climate change. With a focus on the American West, the exhibition presents compelling drawings, models, graphics and film clips that provide practical strategies for how buildings, houses and neighborhoods might be adapted to face a drought-prone future.
On May 5, join Hadley and Peter Arnold, founding codirectors of the Aridlands Institute, for a curated design tour of the exhibition. Free with museum admission; RSVP requested.
Hours: Tuesday through Friday, 11 a.m.–5 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, 12–6 p.m.; closed Mondays
Cost: $5 adult; $2 seniors and students; free for A+D members and those 12 and younger
