Buckminster Fuller matches original and found footage with live narration by Sam Green. For the screening, indie music group Yo La Tengo will perform the score live. The documentary interviews many Bay Area luminaries to discuss Fuller's ongoing impact on design. | SHOWCASE HOME — April 24–May 20, 2012 Philharmonic House of Design Laguna Beach, California See how 20 Orange County and Los Angeles interior designers transformed an 11,000-square-foot beachside estate at this year's Philharmonic House of Design showcase. The house, in the postcard-perfect coastal hills of Laguna Beach, gives you the chance to take in panoramic views of the Pacific and work by local artists. This year's designers include Stephanie Fryer and Rona Graf of Grace Blu Designs, Sean Hashemian, Chris Kittrell, Shala Shamardi, and Hal Swanson and Dan Ollis. Funds from the event benefit youth music education programs of the Philharmonic Society of Orange County. | BENEFIT — April 26–28, 2012 Design on a Dime Metropolitan Pavilion, 125 W. 18th St., New York City More than 50 designers are coming together for Design on a Dime, an interior design shopping benefit, at the Metropolitan Pavilion in Manhattan. The weekend features top interior designers, including Tilton Fenwick and Arden Stephenson, who will create room vignettes using new donated merchandise, which will then be sold for 50 to 70 percent off retail pricing. All funds support Housing Works, a nonprofit with a mission to end AIDS and homelessness. Purchase tickets for the VIP opening-night reception on April 26. Shopping is open to the public on April 27 and 28. |
