Pamper Your Pooch With a Dog Shower

thandler These are all great...but...given the use of commercial grade appliaces in kitchens I have always wondered why dog grooming tubs are not used more as utlity sinks? They would be great for bathing all sizes of dogs, you wouldn't need to kneel or bend over and they would work great for all other utility needs. Most are all stainless steel and come with a built in backsplash.

plohni I put a teak bench in my shower when I was pregnant and it was so comfortable to use i never took it out. Now, my dog hops up on it and I shower him there. It's great.

Sharon Being involved in dog rescue I would like to add something that you might not think of. Remember your dog will be wet until he dries. If you have a long haired dog you may need a drying/grooming table too. But if your dog is short haired you will probably want your laundry room to have tile wainscoting. You can throw the beach towel on the floor and close the laundry door and let the dog air dry. These laundry rooms have tile in the dog washing area but not around the laundry room.

Kelly Taylor Interior Design I used a shallow cast iron sink for the "tub" for this dog shower. It worked perfectly!

benefield We are remodeling a house and I am putting one in the laundry with a 12 inch lip, tiled, with a low shower head I can use instead of a sink and a rod at the top to drip dry clothes. Our lab is 90 lbs. Will post a picture when finished. I just felt tis would get more use than a utility sink and multifunctional.

E M L Something I continue to see in all of the dog shower/bath photos is this: No way to restrain the dog and keep him in the shower! I've been a pro dog groomer for almost 20 years. Your experience will be much better if you include two hooks for a SHORT leash one on each end of the tub. Ignore the suction cup varieties. If you have a 90 pound lab, you need a permanent fixture. Two large eye hooks will do the trick and they can be fastened right through the green board behind the tiles or cut through the fiberglass tub surround. You scrub up one side of your pooch then flip around and scrub up the other side. Keep lots of old towels handy and don't use fabric softener on the towels. Oh, and get yourself a rubber apron! ;)

susanle I too am involved I dog rescue and foster programs. It is important to have a way to manage dogs with special needs ( skin conditions, fear aggression, joint issues, etc) by having secure containment and leash tethers --as another comment suggests. If you bath more than one dog at a time - there will need to be a way to keep from cross-contamination, as well as a way to get the skin, ears, "nooks and crannies" of the animals very dry. Fungal infections, bugs and parasites thrive in wet moist areas and can be easily shared if dogs lick paws, or each other. Having a couple hooks in various areas where dogs can be separated during the bathing process will make things so much easier - and give owners peace of mind. Luv the ones in or near laundry rooms!
