With its white walls, organic wood shapes, bleached floors and soft watery art, this space has it all. This beachy vibe comes from a muted palette that is not overdone or too thematic. This is the sophisticated side to beach-house living.

This is what I call California casual. White walls with beadboard on the ceiling, an open layout and wicker chairs all beckon for lazy days with flip-flops left at the door.

One great advantage to a beach aesthetic is that you don't really need expensive window treatments. To optimize views, consider plain white windows with crisp molding and trim. Save the fussy treatments for the city.

Take advantage of natural light. Note the use of natural Roman shades to control some light and provide textural interest. This palette is classic beach, but with a twist of bright raspberry-colored pillows.

| Here is the use of a watery aqua color in lighting that is repeated in accessories. Light-toned woods are reminiscent of driftwood. An oceanscape oil is always a wonderful addition to any beach aesthetic. Tell us: What's your favorite look in a beach house? Also, take a trek up to Santa Barbara, about an hour from Malibu, and visit Maison K and Lily in Montecito. Both on Coast Village Road and so fun.

Also, grasscloth and pure white are great for a beachy look. Try White Dove OC-17 for white wherever you need it, trim etc.

For pulls in a kitchen, I like an outside dimension of 5-6". This usually allows for four fingers to fit within the pull, which feels more functional to me. On knobs, you just have to make sure it fits and looks scaled to the surface you will be mounting them to. For example, I like a shaker door panel and typically mount the knob on the stile of the door. Most of the time, I use a 2" knob. Depending on the cabinet style, I can go up or down on that size by 1/2". On the Benson pendant, I believe there is a 13" diameter. Three on a 12' island would be fine, they should be approx. 4' apart. It is a great looking fixture.

Below is a picture of our house. We have since changed the siding to a grey and have reworked the top3 dormers to add one large shed dormer with a center picture window so we can see the ocean. We still have alot of work but it is starting to come together.
Thank you for all of your help.
