advice about stools " You'll need to allow enough legroom for people to sit comfortably, and the only way to get it right is by measuring. Determine the distance from the floor to the underside of your countertop or other surface, then subtract between 10 and 14 inches. The result is your target stool height."

kitchen island next to formal dining
combo island and formal dining. Someone asked about best distance for this, and someone answered " If so, a comfortable distance from the edge of the counter or bar top to the edge of a table would be 60”. If you have a very large space with room to spare and larger scale furniture then it would be ideal to bump that distance up to 72”. You may be able to get away with 48” if you have smaller scale furniture and don’t intend to use both areas at the same time, but it will be a bit tight "
another possible configuration
