Utilitarian doesn't have to mean afterthought with window and door trim that highlights finely crafted interior openings

The practical job of window and door trim is to hide the gap between the rough opening in the wall and the door or window frame. Beyond the practical, trim is an aesthetic choice, allowing you to express your personal style or pay homage to your home's history.
My husband and I purchased our historic Arts and Crafts home over a year ago, and our goal is to bring each doorway and window back to its roots with Arts and Crafts–style trim. While a few of the original rough openings were blessed with well-executed, historic trim, we've needed to create much of it from scratch. Inspired by the original, existing style in our home, our Arts and Crafts trim features square section casing with ornamentation on top. A cornice, bed molding and applied bead combine to create the traditional trim style.
