Every weekday morning starts the same for me. Wake up, shower, drive kids to school ... check messages. My phone starts to ring, tweet and buzz on the drive to school. My kids just chat, laugh and sing to the radio, ignoring the various alerts coming from my phone. I usually sneek a peek at each red light and the one train stop on our route.
Lately I've been wondering about the way we all communicate in our instant world of iPhones and iPads. Some common texts I get during the day are quick notes, like "c u @ 12" or "thx 4 ur hlp." I'm still trying to master texting language. I have to admit it feels odd for me to spell in this abbreviated format, even though I realize it saves time. Being a person who focuses on details for a living, I find brevity challenging.
Do you remember the last time you received a handwritten note from a friend? Do you remember the color of the ink or the smell of the stationery? Handwritten letters are the ones that really stick in my mind, and they are a dying art form.
