Under storage/mudroom idea. Enclosed entryway from the garage for ski, bike and boot storage.
bring natural light into the stairway from the basement with a series of windows extending vertically from the garage (clearstory?) up to the main floor's ceiling level.
bonus room under 1.5 story. I like the ceiling angles and the idea of having a half bath in the middle dividing the space into two semi separate areas the width of the building.
alternate stairs to bonus room/2nd floor. This could be a closet on each level connected by storage steps. Alternative to an attic access folding stairs, which would need to be enclosed in a hatch in the floor at the 1.5 level.
bonus room. I like the Gambrel ceiling angles.
fascia/ediface idea. I would want a 1.5 story structure above a full garage/workroom
stone tile skin idea for the A side (clockwise from streetside), which would have garage doors.
side windows, metal skin adjacent to tile/stone idea for the B, C, and D sides.
shelving idea we like. I would build these myself.
great way to let light and air in on the main living level above the garage
Airport hangar door in glass, not practical at all. I would not do this, but I like the idea.
drive in basement garage, but not totally below grade. I would like a concrete garage somewhat bermed in so the walls extending along the exterior of the main living level are not too tall and the vertical proportions of wall height to Gambrel roof height are more or less equal as per another photograph in this ideabook.
drive in garage bermed in/grade raised.
2nd story bonus room exterior in corrugated metal, with overhang and peak beam
House over garage, small footprint idea. I am not committed to a Gambrel.
shelves separating living from staircase to the 1.5 level. I would build these out of metal pipe fittings and finished wood boxes with and without backs to let some light through and hide a small desk.
Office and storage under the stairs.
Industrial staircase I really like. This would go from the garage to the first level, perhaps with diamond plate or industrial/institutional stair tread covering.
Wire rope and metal pipe handrail idea. I like the idea of using outdoor materials - fencing - indoors as material stretched between the verticals of the stair railing.
Under stairs office and storage idea on the main living level.
Two flights of industrial metal stairs with open well and wire rope railing. If the stair placement was in the central area of the building, I like the idea of separating it from the living-room/kitchen with a set of shelves, cabinets, including a small enclosed office/desk space accessed from the living-room side.
Alternative set back side garage with sloped slab roof
Clean and open light space with unfinished floor. We may use OSB - sanded and sealed and/or painted - as flooring until we decide on a a floor covering/treatment. I like the grey as a contrast to the wood.
Front door in enclosed (from the garage) entryway containing storage and stairway to the living level.
Alternative to Gambrel or simple single peaked roof, if we could have an accessible 1.5 story area under a portion of the roofline.
House partially on concrete pilings, minimizing the size of the garage space and allowing the house to feel a bit like a treehouse. I like the corner windows and the corrugated metal siding.
Sloped slab roof as alternative to gambrel and 12:12 single peak roof. We would still want an accessible 1.5 story space under the roof line in which to build a half bath, sitting/sleeping space and storage.
70-90 degree peaked roof with metal skin and good lines for front and bonus area. I do not like the porch.
Kitchen island with sink, diswasher, and seating idea we like.
Metal sink for upper bath
Industrial glide rail doors interior
Walkin unenclosed shower
Murphy beds for space saving. I like the exposed utilities.
Clean lines and minimalist aesthetic, would look good built up on pilings with garage and open space underneath
Good skin design to break up the barn-like lines and references of a gambrel roof. Have ground level as garage and entry
Metal deck for low maintenance and snow load
Metal railing with wood hand rail
Nice clean lines. I like the idea of an extended roofline covering a small metal grate deck
Nice sliding glass door
Stone facade, would look good with corrugated metal siding below, and a green metal roof.
Restaurant sink as bathroom fixture
Corrugated metal siding and a metal roof
one-and-a-half story over garage with a single slope roof
Three car garage with living space above
Idea for two car garage with house above, extending out to a wall or piers with open carport underneath
House over garage in a timber frame style
