I've heard some war stories of shoppers who have braved the opening day of Target's popular designer collaborations. (Dare I bring up the mayhem Missoni for Target wreaked on quiet shopping strips the country over, or is it still too soon?) But Target's upcoming capsule collections mean the company might have finally figured out how to work a collaboration while maintaining everyone's sanity.
The Shops at Target, opening May 6, veers away from the model used in the past of a single big-name designer and instead features products from five handpicked boutiques across the country. Included are a clothing collection from Miami luxury store The Webster, beauty tools from Aspen's Cos Bar and colorful sweet treats from San Francisco's Candy Store. But let's get down to brass tacks: What is there for the house?

| I'd use the largest size of this galvanized planter to hold a couple topiary trees on either side of a front door. Big planters can quickly drain your budget, but these are inexpensive without looking flimsy. |

| The Shops at Target will also feature wares from Polka Dog Bakery in Boston. While most of the selection is more geared to pups than fluffing your home, I couldn't resist including these punchy accessories. They look both durable and adorable, and I wouldn't at all mind leaving them out for all to see. So what do you think of Target's latest take on collaborative lines? Becky Harris Target is the most dangerous place in the world for me, and apparently now more so... I try to grab just a basket instead of a cart, but I can never leave without filling a cart, even if I've just "run in for one thing!"

Rough Linen I love the idea of a Pooh Bear take on spelling and having my secret store marked 'Privet'. That said, I have boycotted Target for years for their insensitive political contributions, I wish they'd stop so I can shop again!

Creative Decor by Mandi ok, I see some must-have's here (fab reversible coral napkins, wire birdhouse that I know just what I'll do with, the galvanized lanterns and those washed baskets!)...Looks like I'll have to work a trip to Target into my schedule this week!! Great stuff, thanks for sharing!

wkelser I think of Target as the mother-ship. When I need an escape I love to go and shop there. It has replaced the mall as my go to place. I am sorry that political decisions have marred Tricia Rose's experience with Target and hope she has the opportunity to enjoy the store again, in light of statements by Target ( http://www.examiner.com/article/target-ceo-apologizes-for-anti-gay-contributions ) and their affiliation with Twin Cities Pride ( http://www.facebook.com/note.php?note_id=225009940844906 ). I know I would suffer if I felt convicted to stop shopping there...

nzdanovich Interesting idea, but I think I will still honor the "Shop Small Business" approach in my local area. I want my dollars to circulate in my local community, instead of going to/through Target.

Casart Coverings Actually, I think this is a genius idea for Target to partner with smaller, American brand shops. This allows us the opportunity to discover, experience, and shop for more exclusive, boutique items. It brings exposure to these businesses -- many "main street" original startups (look at Target's video), which will increase their notoriety and help strengthen the economy through their own sales within their respective towns. A win win for all.

punkinhead I'm all for partnering with American design shops - but where are the items being MADE? For these prices, it's most assuredly overseas. I'll stick with buying used items at thrift stores and investing in quality items from local makers over buying disposable items that will end up in the thrift stores (or the trash) themselves in a matter of a couple of seasons.

vbengeult In the 21st century, with globalization a fact of life, a job for anybody is a good thing. Target creates jobs both here and overseas, provides good quality for the price, and is smart about providing stylish products. There are many great reasons to shop at local thrift shops, but they don't really help the economy and keep manufacturing jobs local. I'd venture to guess that most of the items sold in the thrift shops have been made overseas for the last 50 years or so.

thegreenbee Oh my gosh, I'm at Target so often, my almost 4 year old probably thinks it's our second home! How did I not know about this?! I have to keep this secret from my husband or I will never be allowed in Target again, lol!
