Lake House Collection: 5 Cozy Camps Across the U.S.
Pull up the canoe and relax into the views of these comfy lake house retreats from traditional to contemporary
Houzz Contributor. Hi There! I currently live in a 1920s cottage in Atlanta that I'll describe as "collected."
I got into design via Landscape Architecture, which I studied at the University of Virginia. I've been writing about design online for quite a few years over at Hatch: The Design Public Blog.

I'm a sucker for a cozy lakefront camp: rough-hewn logs, lots of knotty pine, stone fireplaces and small, inviting bedrooms with twin beds covered in quilts. We've toured a lot of wonderful lake houses here on Houzz in a variety of styles; here are five enviable lake homes from traditional to contemporary and everything in between. While their looks differ dramatically, each one is inviting and has at least one rustic nostalgic lake house touch.
The Houzz: House on Woman Lake By: Lands End Development, Michelle Fries of BeDe Design Location: Woman Lake, Minnesota This quintessential lake house is located on the shores of Woman Lake in central Minnesota.
The family room and kitchen feel much larger than they are thanks to high ceilings and an open floor plan. A palette of rich woods from floor to ceiling and a stone fireplace give it a nostalgic family camp atmosphere.
Family lake camps are all about sleeping as many people as possible, and if I were lucky enough to be invited here, I'd call dibs on this cozy bed nook.

The Houzz: The Reserve By: Yvonne McFadden Location: Sunset, North Carolina Interior designer Yvonne McFadden added carefully edited wood accents throughout this home on Lake Keowee. In the kitchen the white fabric and rope give the square white pendant a subtly nautical feel.

Calm, neutral hues do not distract from the views out the expansive windows.

Primitive twin beds, flour-sack-style shams, a primitive trunk nightstand and a lantern give this bedroom traditional lake style.
The Houzz: Swan Fish Camp By: Swan Architecture Location: Lake Mille Lacs, Minnesota The owner of Swan Architecture, Andrea Swan, designed this home for her own family on Lake Mille Lacs, Minnesota.
They desired a calm retreat, which resulted in a minimal yet comfortable contemporary design, inspired by the classic A-frame.
The white paint, glass mosaic tiles and light-colored hardwood floors maximize the way the light bounces around the space.

The Houzz: Tahoe Ridge House By: David S. Wilson, WA design Location: Tahoe, California Architect David S. Wilson took his cues from vernacular architecture, stripped it down to basic elements, exaggerated the geometry and managed to keep a wonderful lake house feel.

A spectacular cathedral ceiling makes this open-plan first floor feel vast, yet the use of wood beams and a wood ceiling gives a nod to traditional rustic lake houses.

Big views out to the trees and this live-edge dining table make the beautiful surroundings a big part of the interior.

patscats2 Note my profile photo. Now that's a deep south camp from the good ole days. Unfortunately they knocked it down recently to complete flood protection work.
