Brighten Things Up with Yellow
Houzz Contributor. Hi There! I currently live in a 1920s cottage in Atlanta that I'll describe as "collected."
I got into design via Landscape Architecture, which I studied at the University of Virginia. I've been writing about design online for quite a few years over at Hatch: The Design Public Blog.

Every few months, those of us who write a lot of ideabooks cannot help but feature yellow. From a tiny little yellow accent to yellow walls and cabinets, the color just makes us happy. Yellow has a range of meanings in different colors, from courage to cowardice and everything in between. In a home, it brings happiness and joy. It's also a safe color to paint a nursery if you've decided to let the "Boy or Girl?" question be a surprise.
What looks good with yellow? My personal favorites are taxicab yellow, black and white, as well as yellow and gray. As a primary color, yellow works well with other primary colors. Yellow and blue, especially turquoise, are another favorite of mine.
The next time you need to brighten up a room, or are just looking for a touch of color to liven things up, consider yellow. You won't regret it.

Yellow is a great way to fight off long Scandinavian winters. It's kind of like those little light visors people wear to ward off depression in Alaska.

do all the walls or an accent. The ceiling is going to be spray painted black,;duct work, electrical, everything to make the celing disappear. I just don't want the room to look like a big bumble bee!
Sarah Richardson did her bathroom in yellow and grey. She painted the claw foot tub base yellow. The room was georgeous.

Sweetiepie, don't you just love Rubie Green fabrics?
Kswoot, that is a conundrum. I think as long as you have other neutrals in the room, perhaps on furniture and the floor, you'll avoid having a bumblebee basement!
