Teal? Seriously? Heck YES!
Houzz Contributor. Hi There! I currently live in a 1920s cottage in Atlanta that I'll describe as "collected."
I got into design via Landscape Architecture, which I studied at the University of Virginia. I've been writing about design online for quite a few years over at Hatch: The Design Public Blog.

I was laughing with the owner of Turquoise L.A. the other day about how Pantone named Turquoise color of the year in 2010 - it's kind of like giving Meryl Streep the Best New Actress Award or something. Always ahead of the curve, she informed me that it's all about teal right now, and that she'd just used teal in the room she designed at The Upward Bound House Family Place.
At first I thought "Teal? Seriously?" but then I saw the pictures of her room. I love it, and it works so well with the red and yellow accents. I was inspired to put together an ideabook all about teal. Unfortunately, hardly a photo has been tagged with "teal" here on Houzz...YET! So Houzz community, if you're on the teal bandwagon, make sure and add it as a tag in photos that feature it. In the meantime, here are some teal and sorta-kinda-teal-ISH inspirations. If you find some more, please add them in the comments section!
P.S. To learn more about Upward Bound House, click here. It's a really inspiring project that a handful of designers donated scads of time and talent to accomplish.

Teal works really well with the natural fibers and neutral colors, as well as with the lighter blue in the pillow.

These tiles are so beautiful - look at all the different shades of color in each little tile. I wonder if any two of them are exactly alike or or they are like snowflakes.
This room is just lush with yummy color - check out that crisp white chair rail that breaks up the teal - it's perfection.

Isn't this deep red fantastic against the teal walls? I wish OPI would make a nail polish that color. Oh wait, what was I supposed to be talking about...

The printed wallpaper across the Upward Bound room delineates the space for the parents' bedroom, creates a headboard, and picks up on the teal walls.
Here's a close up of that print - how cool is that?

Hints of teal in the accent pieces add to the groovy casual coastal vibe going on in this Amy Lau room.
This combination is like teal-light. Yeah, I know I'm stretching it here.
Shades of teal come into this room through the paintings.
Teal works very well with other shades of blues and greens.

More teal tiles give a perfect punch of color to this crisp kitchen.

I found a few great ones:

Here is a picture of my bedroom, a charm i made recently, and the magazine issue that inspired me to bring the teal to the front room.
I love turquoise too, but the point is that teal is the new turquoise ;)
Here's my hangup, though - my very first job out of college was at an ad agency that thought it was being edgy by painting - and SPONGE painting - some of the walls teal. It was 1996 and, um, not edgy. I looked at those walls for 3 years until we finally convinced the owner to let us paint over them.
So I'm not sure I'd be able to live with teal now. Though I really do like how it looks with orange...

Etta, I LOVE SEEING YOUR ROOM! It is absolutely beautiful! I'd love to do an ideabook that shows off everyone's work at The Upward Bound facility. There is so much great design that happened there and it warms my heart to think of all that you and your peers put into it.
