Paint is an inexpensive way to make trim really stand out. The charcoal color around the windows accentuates the panes and puts the view into focus.
Check out the beautiful wall on the right. The trimwork's geometery mimics the windows on the adjacent wall.
A true Craftsman designer knows the importance of trimwork on a staircase. I believe this is maple wood.
Long rectangular boxes exaggerate the height of the room and pair well with the built-ins opposite them.
Here the trimwork helps to delineate the rooms but keeps the view open.

Check out the walls, ceiling, stained glass windows and doorways here. No surface was ignored. I don't see a bit of drywall here!
