5 Questions From ICFF: Lindsey Adelman
The inventive designer takes a break from New York's International Contemporary Furniture Fair to talk about her artistic lighting fixtures
To Lindsey Adelman, jumbles of wires, piles of rocks and planks of wood are all potential pieces of art. "I often combine forms to create visual tension, such as 'Burst,' which looks both like a flail and a vintage broach by using hand-blown glass spikes," says Adelman. Brass wire, ceramic, wood and hammered sheet metal come to life in the innovative designer's new Branching Lighting system, which previewed at the 2012 International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF) in New York City.

A delicate sconce reflects light across corallike golden branches. Like much of her work, this piece is completely customizable — the branches come separately and can be moved in several different arrangements.

The priority in my designs is to use the least amount of material and manufacturing processes to create the greatest impact of functionality and emotional quality.

Many of Adelman's new pieces played with new finishes or colors. Neon pinks and yellows made an appearance in Adelman's collection for the first time.
