The Globus Chair, desgined by Jesús Gasca in 1994, is having a major moment. Its curvy chrome details and cut-out made it a perfect choice for the new Santiago Calatrava Pavilion at the Milwaukee Museum of Art. In the space, white Globus Chairs mingle with black Barcelona Chairs, and when arranged for events, seem like the only appropriate choice for their grand reception area, Windhover Hall. This chair works well in all sorts of situations, from a lone desk chair to a dinner party for six, from an intimate inn's dining room to a museum pavilion full of people.

The chair gets a lot of mileage out of the elliptical cut out in the back. It adds style, ventilation and an extra curve. It's available in a molded beech plywood or plastic, and with polished chrome or matte chrome legs. It also stacks for easy storage, though unless you own a restaurant, I can't imagine why you wouldn't want to leave every Globus you own out to show off all the time.

This designer has chosen a blocky wood table in a dining room full of rectangles and squares. The Globus chairs and their big curves add a bit of relief from all of these straight lines. The cylindrical pendant lights are the only other element in the room that add a circle.
Tip: When planning out your furniture, pay attention to the shape of your furniture and accessories. If straight lines dominate, throw a few curves into the mix. Light fixtures, lamps, area rugs, poufs and chairs all can round out a room.

| I began this ideabook with an image of Windhover Hall and I'm ending it with one. Now that you are more familiar with the Globus Chair's shape, you can see why it was chosen to complement this soaring and curved architecture. The cut-out in the back of the chair relates so well to the spectacular curved opening which lets in the natural light.
