As you can see I am thinking of having the TV on one wall and the fireplace on another. Is this going to be a big mistake — causing two focal points in the room? Any suggestions would be most welcome. It is easier to change on paper now versus later.

So, I say...small room = combine fireplace and tv (just make sure you don't mount the TV too high)
big room = separate the fireplace and tv in two areas
You'll also get to see the floor plan there, too. :)
