| Natural light penetrates only so far through each window, so consider installing multiple points of light. You can also arrange your furniture so that the most-used pieces sit where there's the most light. |

| Getting light in is important to your health, studies say, but so is looking out your windows. Looking out at gardens brings faster healing in patients, claims a paper by HMC Architects. And if well-lit views help those who are sick, how much more will they help those who are well? |
We're back to postage stamp garden hemmed in by garage backs. Our home is a gorgeous Victorian, but I'd trade all the charm and detail for a plain box with windows surrounded by nature. Luckily we're renting now. I keep looking for a patch of earth to build our new window to the outside.
Now we live in our second very glassy home (triple-paned floor to ceiling windows) and enjoy the abundance of light every day. It is important, though, to be able to shade the exterior of the windows.
And ladies & gentlemen, I have read all your comments above and I understand that some of you are more concerned about the heating/cooling bills but...IF you have a disorder like I do, which makes life practically impossible, LIGHT AND LOTS OF IT is the only way to feel better to be even able to function on a basic level. I live in a country with lot of grey weather & rain, but when I was on vacation in extremely warm & very sunny place for a week, I could stop all my anti-depressants and was able to function. I even consider to move to another country if it would only be possible financially...it would change my life!!!
