Screen Style Forecast: When the 'Girls' Grow Up
We predict which decorating styles the girls on HBO's new series will choose when their taste matures. Do any match yours?
When HBO's series Girls premiered April 15, many cheered the arrival of the brutally honest and unsentimental Hannah Horvath, written and played to pitch perfection by Lena Dunham. How the 20-somethings in Girls deal with the trials and tribulations of their lives reveals so much about their internal selves — and, not surprisingly, their interior decorating styles. With my Houzz hat on, I looked at each character's current decorating style to predict what it might look like in 10 years.

| Character: Hannah Horvath Current style: Quirky vintage Hannah's apartment shows her love of all things crocheted and preloved. It's peppered with interesting finds, likely all from the Brooklyn Flea or sidewalk castaways that turned into DIY project. Pieces include mismatched dining chairs and a growing collection of refrigerator magnets threatening to place her visually busy space under siege. |

| Future style: Vintage modern In 10 years, Hannah will find her writing stride and probably become one of the top female screenwriters of her generation. I see her living in a bungalow in Los Angeles' Silverlake or Los Feliz neighborhood, continuing her daily journal practice and working out of her living room sitting area. She still reaches for the same midcentury modern colors (burnt orange, sage, brown) but can afford a few modern iconic pieces. |

The future Hannah's signature accessory: After pulling all-night rewrites on a Hollywood set, Hannah habitually eats breakfast at 2 p.m. on Sundays surrounded by quirky accessories like this toast and egg holder set. They were given to her by her dad as a thank-you gift for being so cool about the embarrassing slip-in-the-shower incident she witnessed when she came home to visit her parents a decade ago.

As a 20-something, Marnie is the only one with a job and a stable income. As a 30-something, she'll likely grow bored of the art world and move on to the only part of gallery life that she liked: events. As a sought-after event coordinator, she'll work hard and play very little and spend minimal time at home.

"Shosh" already gets bonus points for choosing X-stools and a damask block-printed sofa, her way of showing us that she's got some design chops underneath the fleece and peace signs of her Snuggie. |

This look is glamorous, glitzy and high shine. Shoshanna's future apartment will likely shine in yellow or another energizing color reflecting her bubbly personality. The space will exude a collected and perfectly curated feel, mostly because Shoshanna has worked on the space with the best design professionals in Manhattan.

Layered, exotic, complex but seemingly thrown together effortlessly, global eclectic is what I like to call bohemian for grownups — a more collected and thoughtful bohemian style. I can see Jessa entertaining guests while reclining on this batik blue daybed, kir royale in one hand and cigarette in the other. Still quite the transient, she might surprise everyone in the future by landing herself a job as an international news correspondent, which would make the most of her strengths: charm, eloquence and a definitive sense of feeling at home in the world.
