GORGEOUS GRAFFITI: Words & Writing As Decorative Wall Accents

“I’d like my name handwritten” was the answer I got from the 16 year old son of one of my clients three years ago when asked the question “What would you like on your bedroom walls?”. The result was an awesome teenage boy’s bedroom that started navy blue on the ceiling and slowly lightened to a light sky blue on the bottom of the walls and the son’s name hand airbrushed in cursive behind his bed.

Whether it is a quote from your favorite author, a single syllable word or young man’s name, decorating with writing is something that, believe it or not, can be found in so many ways in interiors. You can find such design elements in any Catholic church listing saints’ names or part of parts of our constitution lining molding in the White House.

Words inspire us to reflect on our daily lives, to motivate us, or simply make us smile and get us through the day. Words educate our children, make us laugh and help us look forward to the future. Whatever their purpose in your life, do not be afraid to use them in your home. Paint them on or hang wood carved alphabet pieces of all size. For fun or to be serious, just like the words themselves, it’s all in the way you use them and it is all up to how you interpret them.

Check out some of different ways to create gorgeous graffiti in your home.
Subtle name placement is fun and whimsical.
Another example of name as decorative accent.
Decorate with people's names, why not city names. London notes the possible design style and a state of mind.
Even though this is not written directly on the wall, I do love the sentiment and the inspiring words!
I love the use of black, upper case lettering in this kid's play room. The words are perfect for inspiring creativity and are also whimsical. The room can also transition well as the children get older.
Read the writing on walls: the freehand is fun and whimsical and the quotes are just as great!
Modern inspiration comes via a tradtionally cursive wall poem.
Letters and words can be hung not just painted on. Initials or name? It's all up to you.
It's all up to interpretation. What do you think this means? I love how varying sizes of the letters and the use of rounds mirrors works on this wall.
