| The boxlike structure of this apartment presented some challenges in the interior design. Although the stunning view was the highlight of the space, the floor plan was difficult to organize for livability. McGukin and his team extended the existing kitchen by adding cabinetry and changing out the cabinets with a darker lacquered paneling. The extended cabinetry helps define the kitchen and the dining room areas, but the great room still feels open. Tailored hardwood flooring makes the home feel less like a condo and more like a custom home. Countertops: Silestone; range/hood; existing; cabinetry: Poliform |

| Although most of the furniture is neutral — designed to last a lifetime of interior changes — McGukin spiced things up with colorfully patterned pillows, turquoise chairs and modern wallpaper. The enormous windows provide plenty of natural light, so solar shades were a must. Chandeliers, table lamps and floor lamps are layered with the natural lighting. Sofa: client's, upholstered in Donghia Covet velvet; pillows: Opuzen fabric; coffee table: Crate & Barrel |

| McGukin and his team focused on layers of wallpaper and pattern for visual texture. While the view is the main focal point, the large-scale wallpaper print and the fireplace provide a second point of interest and a sense of purpose. | The location of the dining room allows it to share lighting with the kitchen and the living areas. The chandelier, floor lamps, kitchen task lighting and large windows create layers of light. Task lights, low lights and sculptural lights were added in key places. |

| The textural grass cloth wall covering echos the same feel of the rich carpet and the bench at the foot of the bed. Soft blue bedding ties in the beautiful skyline view and adds a touch of color. Wall covering: Phillip Jeffries grass cloth; bench: Jonathan Adler; bed frame: custom; rug: ABC Carpet & Home; sconces: Circa Lighting |
