DELECTABLE DESIGN: Inspirations From Show Houses Past
No one looks forward more to walking through a Decorator Show House filled with spaces created by the top names in the design world, than die hard interior design followers. Oh yeah, and other designers too. Taking place from Kip’s Bay to Houston to right here in San Francisco, these temporary exhibitions of high-end and elite designs represent some of the best design ideas and cutting edge styles.
For just a little bit of time, you can escape the many worries of today and stroll through a home office with custom silk rugs and a stingray leather desk or a gourmet kitchen that would make Julia Child blush. All the while gaining design inspiration for your home while supporting worthy causes.
This week, The San Francisco Decorator Showcase House will open for a month for all to explore. But before I share my favorite rooms and design ideas in this years Showcase, I’d like to share some of my favorites from Show Houses past.

Restrained and refined, each piece in this vignette holds their own in visual weight. Not only do you see a cohesive story but your eye flows from one item to the next. I also love the shades of blue on the floor and chair as well as the sexy curves of the furniture.

Tomar Lampert Associates put out all the stops in this lavish living room. I picture it to be the setting of a glamorous 1930's Hollywood party where the guests are just as exquisite as every carefully selected piece that fills the room.
2007 SF Dining Room: This dining room has got be my all time favorite Showcase House room of all time. From the hand painted walls to furniture to the flatware, this room has got it all.
I love the detail in the hardware and metal used in this bathroom. The patterned tile floor grounds the space and creates visual interest.

2008 SF Master Bath: Elegant and feminine, this bathroom's mix of pink and gold is great. The veining in the natural stone tub surround brings in an organic element.
2001 SF Guest Room: Any visitor would love to arrive to a such a stylish and comfortable private room. Less is more!

2007 Kip's Bay Master Bedroom: I know I have referenced this room a couple times before but this is one of my favorite Showhouse bedrooms. I love the impact of all the pink shades together.
The relaxing neutral color scheme of this bedroom is understated yet elegant. I love how the bed canopy, integrated into the ceiling, draws your eye vertically and emphasizes the rooms height.

I've been loving the 2009 Kips Bay photos. I used to be involved in the DC Show House (which is, sadly, no longer). It's such a crazy, but fun process to be a part of - and so inspiring!
