For this design challenge I recommended a contrast color or decorative panel in the back of the left hand wall niche. There should be some sort of accent lighting behind the niche with yes, a flat screen tv unit. Husbands want their TV so trying to avoid it doesn't make sense however you can dress it up. As for the fireplace, if possible add an updated insert that mirrors the sleek tv unit. With a drum lamp overhead, fresh mouldings, updated pane window and natural flooring, you may be moving in the direction you want. If the stone wall continues to be troublesome, I suggest putting drywall over it then wall paper on it or paint as you desire. Cheers. P.S. I first tried the rendering with dark flooring but it made the room close up an become smaller. That is why I went with a bleached pine.

I stumbled across this design dilemma and had a few ideas. I love the dark wood floors against the pale grey walls with white moldings. I suggest to use a tufted charcoal grey head board with bedding in other shades of grey and chocolate. Accent the room with black and white geometric patterned pillows, wicker storage and rattan window and wall accessories. All tones and textures are interchangeable and will make an attractive statement for years to come.

The space is amazing so with a few added home accessories, an area rug and updated furniture pieces, suggestions followed. This rendering is based on the owner's actual entry room space
