Easy Makeover: Spirited Spruce-Up for a Bar Cart
A bar cart gets some much-needed service with a little dusting, rearranging and decoration, for a dashing new look in less than an hour

About two years ago I took you on a tour of my friend Lucas Miré's loft here in Atlanta. Since then the pictures of his bar tray have been crazy popular on Houzz. He always likes to keep it lit up and full of spirits, and also keeps fresh flowers on top of it. However, an honest guest looked at it recently with fresh eyes and pointed out that the bar could use a good cleaning, some reorganizing and a general spruce-up. It was an easy project they completed in less than an hour, and Miré was so excited about his cleanup, it was the first thing he told me about the next time I saw him.

This is one of the original bar shots. It's been featured in many articles here on Houzz, and Houzzers have added it to more than 1,500 personal ideabooks so far. This shot was taken about two years ago, when it was ready for its close-up. Since then, the bar had become cluttered and dusty and was in disarray, but because Miré saw it every day, he didn't notice.

"Well, it all started when my friend brought me these awesome glass balls with feathers in them," says Miré. "I think they are really cool, but I didn't want to hang them all in some group and say, 'Here's my feathers-in-glass-balls collection.'"

"We started to experiment and decided they would look good in the tops of my carafes," he says. "I am such good friends with the person who gave them to me that he felt comfortable telling me my bar could use a sprucing. We removed and washed all of the liquor bottles and glassware, and washed off the bar thoroughly."

The next addition to the glassware was this terrarium on a stem. It keeps some sprigs of green present for those days when the table is between flower arrangements.

Artfully arranged tulips were added as the final touch. Miré enjoys switching up the flowers to give the bar different looks.

olldbobbi Very creative! I would love to see more DIY (or at least TIY, try-it-yourself) projects on Houzz. Not all of us can afford designers but would still like to have the designer look. Thanks!
