It's a visual fact that a curved line appears softer than a straight or angled line. This holds true in architecture. To soften a space, designers often find that the addition of an arch does the trick. Arches make a statement just about anywhere they appear. I've hired a interior designer to help balance the amount we should have in the house.
I also like the look of a traditional rectangle door with an arched door behind it.

That sounds awesome, we've looked at over 100 houses in our home search (including a funeral home which is a whole different story) and I feel that it is so much easier to build a home w/character than to add character later. I really love the arches in the minimalist traditional home kits (last very popular kits).
