A Cottage Kitchen Dream.

I am a wife and mother of 3 and an AVID decorator. I write a blog called My Cottage Charm, you can find it at http://mycottagecharm.blogspot.com I love to take something that's ugly and turn it into the proverbial swan. I love to take a space no one wants to be in and turn it into the favorite room in the house. This is my passion!

Adding white paint, some vintage finds and some tlc can turn any dark drab kitchen into a kitchen you'll want to cook in.
Cut out the panels in the upper cabinets and put in glass for a more cottage kitchen look that's great for displaying your favorite dishes. The installation of beadboard in the backs of cabinets, in this case painted a pale pink, give another texture to the room while adding a touch of cottage charm.
When accessorizing a cottage kitchen, use some vintage pieces like the covered cake plate while mixing in some newer pieces like the green rooster, which also adds a splash of color.
I love how bright and airy this space feels, it makes you want to get in there and cook! An island can be built from just about any old table, this one was built from an old porcelain topped table, that had only the legs and top to start with, but turned into a storage dream with the addition of two shelves and a door to help hide larger appliances.
The tin backsplash was installed to cover dark, tumbled tiles and oh what a difference it makes to the kitchen. It brightens it up and also gives it a metallic element and also additional texture.
This cottage kitchen captures the crisp, fresh feel of today with the vintage allure from yesterday..a real gem!

codenwell I am curious about the back splash. I have seen these tiles in Lowe's. The home we just purchased has a ceramic tile back splash that is a boring beige. Do you think these tiles would fit over top that? Or I was thinking about possibly painting them white, same as cabinet color. Thoughts?

Melissa Thorn I tried painting the tiles that are under that "tin" backsplash, and I hated it....hence the new backsplash! Lol I bought these from Lowes and they were so easy to put up. I cut it with kitchen scissors, and used the special adhesive made for the tin to adhere it right over the old tiles, it was amazing the difference it made! :-)
