Guest Picks: Stylish Sofa Beds
Even small homes can provide comfortable guest accommodations with the right sofa bed
I am a designer living and working in New York City. I write Fourth Floor Walk Up as a means of expression to document inspiration, projects and the design evolution of my home. I am greatly influenced by the city around me and although New York is expensive and hard on the 99%, I believe that everyone can have a great refuge to come home to – some of us just have to work a little bit harder to attain it.
DECORATING
I grew up within a household centered around decorating with the interest being past down through several generations. My grandmother, mother and I have all had the ability to see spaces for what they are and what they could become. I tend to focus on smaller spaces with modest budgets because I believe a little bit of blood, sweat and tears can make a sweeter home.

With summer in full swing, there is no time like the present to offer out-of-town guests a comfortable bed to sleep on. Like many people who live in cities, I am a New Yorker faced with the challenge of finding the best space-saving solutions that also keep with my style and taste. One way to tackle this issue is to invest in a convertible couch, whether it be a sleeper sofa or a day bed, to make it very easy to transform your living room into a guest bedroom within minutes.
In the past, sleeper sofas were not the most stylish of couches, but luckily there are now loads of well-designed sofa beds at all price points on the market. After looking for what felt like years, I finally settled on a new sleeper sofa for my apartment, and I couldn't be happier with the choice. Throughout my research I stumbled upon many different options and felt it necessary to share my findings. — Lauren from Fourth Floor Walk Up

This sofa has both the look and the utility. There are limited amounts of Chesterfield sleeper sofas in this world. If you're on the hunt for one, this is a wonderful option. It also happens to be my latest purchase.
I've always admired apartments that feature day beds rather than sofas. They're so chic and are a terrific convertible bed option in a small space. This Asian-influenced design from Horchow is the perfect stylish example.
If you're searching for a tuxedo-style sofa bed that looks nothing like a sleeper, this one by Mitchell Gold and Bob Williams is your best bet. It was the second choice on my list. I especially love its proportions that suit both modern and classic tastes.

A roll-arm sofa is a classic silhouette; it's reminiscent of a Chesterfield but without all of the tufting.
