My Dream House

It's Sunday night, I've got a glass of red wine, it's chilly out, the fire is going, and I'm browsing through EXTERIORS on Houzz. Right now my own little cottage is definitely my dream house. However, it's not greedy to pick out other dream houses, right? It's ridiculous to try and pick - I made it through about 35 pages of images with it set to small before I'd already racked up about 25 houses I want.
What makes a dream house? While some of the ones I love are big, I don't like McMansions, or space for the sake of showing up the Joneses. I don't believe in maxing out square footage, or in trying to make a house look like an old style that it's not - "Craftsman style" McMansion teardown replacements, I'm talking to you!
Looking through the list, I'm thinking I have multiple personality disorder. Under further analysis, I see that I am drawn to older homes, particularly vernacular American styles, and as for modern, I like those that have drawn upon a vernacular style, taken the best characteristics of it and made it modern. I like tiny and cozy and I like big and rambling. I like mountains, oceans, farms, cities and walking neighborhoods. Some are for single life, some are for families, some are just in case I magically become a minimalist in a parallel universe.
I could go through this exercise once a month and still keep coming up with the dream houses I find here. Do you have one? If so, please share it with us in the comments section!

There's something about a converted barn that has always called to me. I think it's all the Little House on the Prairie episodes I watched in my youth.
Lovely rural meets modern and light - the problem on the Little House on the Prairie house was that it had one depressing window.
Another lovely setting. I particularly love the site planning and the scale of this home. It's a modernized farm cottage.

Block Island is one of the most sublime landscapes I've ever seen - tangled wild plants in waves right up to the edges of cliffs. This house is so respectful toward the shingled cottages that already existed here.

| This is the cutest house I've ever seen. It's funny, when I see pictures of mansions, I'm usually drawn more to the adorable little guest cottage. This seems like a little guest cottage where a fairy tale would happen. |
