The other day I noticed several spheres on Houzz in a row and thought it was kind of interesting, so I kept my eyes open for them and kept adding them to an ideabook called "Balls." Thank goodness a Houzz member brought up the word "sphere" in the comments section of another ideabook — I'll be forever grateful that she gave me a better word! A sphere is a three-dimensional closed surface where every point on the surface is equidistant from the center. In different cultures and faiths it can symbolize healing, fulfillment and completion... that's got to be some good juju to have around the house, right?

FYI, I'm stretching a bit beyond that "equidistant from the radius" geometric definition with some of these sculptures. But you know, if I didn't allow this stretch I'd still be calling the ideabook "Balls."

Then the freakiest thing was finding the green sphere's orange brother soon after.

| The first time I drove through central Virginia, I noticed all of these amazing rolls of hay dotting the hills. Up to this point, I'd only seen rectangular bales of hay, and I was entranced. Something about the placement of these spheres in the landscape reminds me of the feeling I had the first time I saw those hay rolls. |

This group of spheres creates a beautiful and interesting focal point at the end of the pool. I love the way this vista continues from indoors to outdoors (bravo to the designer and the photographer).

I grew up listening to Donna Summer records, so of course a mirrored disco ball is one of my favorite spheres.

Here's another one that shows off spheres in a snowy landscape.
You don't have to start out with a giant sphere in the garden; some that are the size of actual bowling balls can also pack a dramatic punch! Oh my gosh, the big one has the small one in its reflection, which has the big one in its reflection, which has the small one with the big one in its reflection in its reflection... my mind is blown. I must end this ideabook.

Ever since the house tour that displayed the blue "shere" in the bathroom (pic 7), I have been obsessed with these decorative "balls"! Just got a stainless steel 12-inch "gazing ball" for my succulent/rock garden and it really does stand out!
I'm planning on purchasing one of each of CB2's "Color Balls" next to add a little more color.
Too funny, when I was searching Houzz photos, I was racking my brain for "ball" synonyms, too! Here's the link for my ideabook (mostly landscape settings) if you're wanting to add more pics to this one:
