Bedrooms - African, Ethnic or Tropical
Hi! I'm an Artist. I work in Watercolor and Acrylics. I paint architectural works and landscapes of places I've been. A lot of my work has been based on my travels to Scotland. I love stone buildings! Recently I have been teaching Painting and Art to Homeschooled kids.
My love of African and Ethnic Art comes from Art School and of course all those National Geographics I poured over as a kid. I've worked in fibers, wood & clay sculpture.

I got my love of African & Ethnic Art from Art School. I still love it. The internet has opened up possibilities for normal people to collect African art. Because of Ebay I now have several beautiful Kuba Cloths & Mud cloths. My bedroom is currently Moroccan themed.
I actually saw this room. It was in a show house in Birmingham- Bloomfield Hills, Michigan several years ago. Both bedrooms in the Carriage house still stick out in my mind. This was the Gardener's room. The bed would be from the Senufo tribe, I suppose. You can see the stools on Ebay sometimes. There is one below, somewhere.

There are 3 types of Kuba Cloth. This applique type, a long embroidered type and a thick velvet like small rug. This type of Kuba Cloth is like the Molas from Guatamala. It is layered fabric that is cut out and sewn on in applique form. Lower down is the Kuba velvets mounted in frames.
Above the bed are the Kuba velvets. They are not soft, but made of raffia sewn like a cut pile rug. They took a long time to make. At one point they were actually used for currency in Africa. They can be very geometric and regular or very chaotic & geometrical. I find them very beautiful.
These pillows look like they were inspired by the third type of Kuba Cloth.
As always I love Grasscloth wallpaper.

The small pillow here is made of African Mudcloth.
