Clash Course: Personalize Your Bathroom
Bathrooms don't have to be utilitarian — accessories and style make these simple spaces feel fab

The bathroom seems to be the one spot in our homes that we forget to inject with personal style. We tend to spend a lot of time considering its materials and function (as we should), but then we decorate it only with bathroom-y items, and before we know it we're stuck in an oddly bland and neutral space. The bathroom is actually one of the most fun rooms to play around with, simply because their neutral backdrop introduces eclectic interest.
Toothbrushes look better in an old mug, industrial baskets and boxes make great storage, and art, photographs and personal accessories can all live in the bathroom just as well as they do in any other room. Look at styling your bathroom in the same way as the rest of your home — with all the guts and sass you can muster!

This plate collection makes an incredible addition to this bathroom. Can you imagine the space without these shapes, colors and personality?

| Making a bathroom feel like other rooms in your home is tricky, considering the function. But check out the way this toilet is nearly deleted from view and your eye is drawn to the sophisticated art and organic accessories, which make the room feel more like a study. |
Be bold! If you were to take out the accessories, this would be a neutral space ready for resale.
A wonderful collection of vintage oddities in this windowsill brings interest and comfort.

| A gallery wall and antique chandelier add an eclectic edge to an otherwise traditional bath. |
Thick, dark velvet draperies, industrial boxes and baskets and on-trend typography inform the mood of this space and give insight to the personality of the occupant.

| Yes, it's a bathroom! Now, granted, we don't all have rooms large enough to mimic this space, but the bookshelves are styled with books and other elements we'd traditionally have in other rooms — and it works. custom-tiles.com A little surpirsed not to see custom printed tiles. Art or photos on custom tile murals could be unique expressions of taste or family backgounds.

Pangaea Interior Design, Portland, OR I love designing bathrooms! Art is a must-have in my opinion. A bonus is that this is one of the smallest rooms in your home (for most people anyway) so that luscious tile or fabulous wall covering may run $$$$$ per square foot or per yard, but you won't need very much, so you can allow yourself to splurge here more easily than elsewhere. Huge strides forward in vinyl wall coverings make it easier than ever to add interest to your walls. I've always loved that first bathroom. Love that they filled in that whole area instead of hanging one teeny-tiny picture above the toilet. Thank goodness, not a single fuzzy pink toilet seat cover in sight! LOL!!

astraea I must be too practical; even with good ventilation, bathrooms have more moisture than other rooms in a house. What happens when thinks (like all those knickknacks) get damp .. dust adheres to them. Wow, another room with clutter to dust! And books to stand on a bathroom shelf for a long period .. can you spell "mold"?!

Fine Art & Portraits by Laurel For some reason #1 and #7 didn't download on my Mac. The others are all quite nice. I agree with Astraea that steam is a definite concern with any art under glass and also with metal objects that can oxidize. I don't know what that beautiful little brass table is, standing in the shower with the orange curtain. I guess you have to remove it when using the shower?
