Base cabinet drawers, overhang for eating area. Even w/shlvs on the kitchen side you might want a drawer at the bottom to cut down on dust.
If removing the whole wall is a problem, an end column could save some $$.
The different height countertops might be a good idea, it would separate the work/serving areas,
